We have just secured our 25th safe house for LGBTQI people fleeing persecution. This new safe house will enable Micro Rainbow to offer nearly 35,000 safe bed-nights a year for LGBTQI people seeking asylum in the UK.
Home can be where we feel most connected and accepted, and a place where we can truly be ourselves. Home is a refuge from stress and uncertainty, a place providing feelings of continuity and identity, while also offering shelter, comfort and security. But what if your home doesn’t feel like this? For LGBTQI people fleeing persecution, home is often not safe – even once they have reached the UK.
But in Micro Rainbow’s safe houses, LGBTQI people seeking asylum are safe to be who they are. They no longer have to hide themselves. We want to get this new safe house open as soon as possible, but it costs upwards of £5000 to get it ready, including purchasing housing packs (which cost £500) for each new resident.
Can you help us? There are three ways to do it!
1. Contribute to a housing pack for the new safe house residents
A new housing pack costs £500. Some of the essential items in a housing pack are:
- 1 x Single duvet
- 2 x Pillows
- 4 x Pillowcases
- 1 x Mattress protector
- 2 x Fitted sheet
- 2 x Duvet cover single
- 2 x Cushion
- 1 x Bedside lamp
- 2 x Face towels
- 2 x Bath towels
- Cutlery, crockery, cleaning products, Wi-Fi and much more!
2. Give a one-off donation
One-off donations are essential and help Micro Rainbow buy the most needed items for our safe houses.
There are a variety of items that your donation can help Micro Rainbow – starting small at bedlinen, all the way up to a vacuum cleaner, a lawn mower or even a mattress!
- £10 can buy a duvet cover set
- £20 can buy a clothes airer
- £30 can buy a toaster and kettle set
- £40 can buy a set of cookware for a house
- £50 can buy a vacuum cleaner
- £100 can buy a lawn mower
- £150 can buy a mattress

3. Become an ally - support us all year round
If you support the work we do, the easiest way to help is to become an ally by making a monthly donation. Your regular donation will help Micro Rainbow not only to become more sustainable but also be able to buy items as and when we need them, and support residents to take part in our employability and social inclusion programmes.
- £10 can pay for a resident to attend an event or activity
- £20 a month can pay for gas and electricity for a safe house resident
- £30 can pay for pay for the Wi-Fi in a safe house for a month
- £40 can pay for a new duvet and bedsheets for a resident
- £50 a month will contribute towards the energy bills for one resident
- £100 a month can pay for all energy bills for one resident
