The Sista Sista Support Group is safe space for LBTQI refugee women who have been victims of persecution and violence because of their sexual identity. Many come from countries where homosexuality is criminalised, and suffered additional stress and discriminations as refugees and asylum seekers when they reached the UK. All these instances led them to lose self-esteem and confidence.

Micro Rainbow’s Sista Sista workshops and activities are peer-led, and a safe space for LBTQI refugee women who have been victims of persecution and violence because of their sexual identity to come together and share experiences. Sista Sista events can range from workshops with outside practitioners, to art therapy, to trips to museums.

For April’s session, we will learn more about the incredible work Rape Crisis does. You will have opportunity to have your say in how they can shape their work to help LGBTQI asylum seekers and refugees.  

There will be a short discussion to understand what sexual violence is. Followed by a presentation to learn about the Rape Crisis Helpline and talk what improvements can be made to improve access for LGBTQI refugees and asylum seekers. 

During the session there will be many mindful art activities to get involved with too.

There will not be time to discuss your own personal experiences with a helpline professional at the event.  

There will be a member of Micro Rainbow and Rape Crisis staff to speak to if you feel overwhelmed or triggered.
