Tuesday 25th June  6-8.30pm  Launch event  Royal Society of Arts

The Creative Project will take place over 4 days, Saturday 22nd to Tuesday 25th June. This will include 2 afternoons in the studio at Queer Circle Gallery over the weekend followed by Monday and Tuesday evening at the RSA Gallery.

Over the weekend we will explore the connection between movement and music based on our themes of Liberation and Celebration. We will play dance games, share our ideas on the topic, improvise with music, and move together as a group and solo. Each day will include a warm up, creative tasks, socialising and food.

We will talk about what liberation means to us. Together we will create a big collage of words, drawings, memories and hopes. We will then work with the Gregorio, who is a professional musician, drummer and composer, to explore rhythms and sounds in music and the body. This project will be a fantastic opportunity to connect with ourselves and each other, share stories and dreams and to create a dance that celebrates our community.

We will then perform our dance piece with live music at the RSA Gallery on Tuesday evening. Our performance will be part of the opening of our exhibition called Dance Your Joy that will be in this gallery for the whole week. The exhibition will include films, text and photography, showing the different creative project outcomes that we have created over the past years. On Monday evening we will have a rehearsal to get used to the space.

As always, we want to enjoy dancing, playing and making something beautiful together in a safe, supported, non-judgmental and creative environment. Everyone will be able to perform. But if this is something you are not comfortable with, you are welcome to take part in the creative project and opt out of the final performance to an audience.

To document the project we also want to take some photographs. We will ask you to complete a consent form to tell us what you are comfortable with. And you can still be part of the project even if you do not want to be in the photos. The photos will be shared in the following ways:

  • We will share it with Micro Rainbow beneficiaries and staff.
  • We will share it with our funders and invited guests (Micro Rainbow family and friends)
  • It may be shared on the internet, including on the Micro Rainbow website.
  • In social media posts.
  • In Project Evaluations to share the outcomes from the project.

No dance or creative experience is required for the project. If you have any specific access needs, please make a member of the MR Team aware of this.

To sign up please email [email protected]. When you sign up please let us know if you are available for the performance opportunity on the 25th June.
