Birmingham creative project

8 June @ 11:30 am 5:00 pm

Join this dance intensive with the Body and Movement team in Birmingham on the 1st and 8th June (11.30am-5pm each day)

Dreams that echo in our bones…

Through this project you will explore stories and images that are held within the living architecture of our bodies; past, present and future/imagined. You’ll have the opportunity to check in with your bodies, connect with each other, explore our creative selves, and have fun moving together. We’ll express ourselves powerfully through the mediums of movement, sound, rhythm and voice.

Using knowledge of anatomy, mindful movement practice, body percussion, house choreography and dance improvisation, we will imaginatively bring these “echos” to the fore.

As part of this journey, beneficiaries will also have opportunities to explore word play and create poetry, which could be further developed into spoken word and dance performance.

What’s more, African drumming artist and dancer Miriam Dubois will be joining us from London to help integrate and celebrate what we have discovered together.

We encourage you to input into the planning, negotiating, decision-making and evaluation of this project, starting with a call for music tracks!  If you have any songs that mean something to you, you can send them to us ahead of the project so that we can include them in a playlist for the project.

In addition, we hope that you may wish to perform this work as part of this year Micro Rainbow’s touring exhibition Dance Your Joy which includes artworks generated from the past four years’ creative projects. The Birmingham exhibition opening night is on Tuesday 11th June, 6-8.30pm at Stryx Community Art Cafe. We would love the creative writing and dance generated from this creative project to be part of this opening celebration of the exhibition in Birmingham.

To document the project we also want to take some photographs. We will ask you to complete a consent form to tell us what you are comfortable with. And you can still be part of the project even if you do not want to be in the photos. The photos will be shared in the following ways:

  • We will share it with Micro Rainbow beneficiaries and staff.
  • We will share it with our funders and invited guests (Micro Rainbow family and friends)
  • It may be shared on the internet, including on the Micro Rainbow website.
  • In social media posts.
  • In Project Evaluations to share the outcomes from the project.

No prior dance or creative experience is required.  Please come wearing loose-fitting comfortable clothing.  If you have any specific access needs or dietary requirements, please make a member of the Micro Rainbow team aware as soon as possible.

To sign up please email [email protected]. When you sign up please let us know if you are available for the performance opportunity on 11th June, and include the name of a music track you’d like to add to the playlist, if you have one.
